Abstract

The increasing global energy demand and the depletion of fossil fuel reserves have driven the search for renewable energy alternatives. Biomass-based biobriquettes offer a promising solution, particularly through the utilization of agricultural waste. This study aims to analyze the effect of sago binder variations (5%, 8%, 10%, 12%, and 14%) on the quality of biobriquettes made from a 50:50 mixture of nilam distillation waste and rice husk. Quality parameters tested include moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, and combustion rate, referring to SNI 01-6235-2000 standards. The results showed that increasing sago binder content from 5% to 14% caused an increase in moisture content (7.84% to 8.86%) and volatile matter (29.04% to 36.87%), while ash content decreased significantly (44.46% to 31.85%). The 12% binder variation produced the lowest combustion rate (0.089 g/min) with the highest durability. The 14% variation achieved the highest combustion temperature (469.0°C). All variations met SNI moisture content standards (<8%) except the 14% variation. The 12% sago binder composition is recommended as the optimal formulation for producing biobriquettes with balanced quality characteristics.
